How is T-mobile's reception coverage is in Southern California?

Currently I'm with Verizon and the service is great, but really expensive and T-mobile looks way way cheaper. I live in San Diego but will transfer to college in Pomona but will be traveling in the LA/ Irvine area. Thanks for the help.
